About 50 people were in attendance at the opening of The Nail Art Gallery — an art exhibit presented by Alex Ramirez of Nail Haven in New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday, June 11, 2023. "The Nail Art Gallery is an opportunity to commune with other artists and put a face and a human to a social media handle or hashtag," said Ramirez about the event.
Modeled after another event put on in Brooklyn, New York by fellow nail artist Jaden Kesse, this Connecticut-based gallery showcases 26 pieces of art by 14 artists from Wisconsin to New England. Artists, clients, friends, and family gathered on opening night in Ramirez's intimate New Haven nail studio to view these incredible pieces. Guests came from as far as Maine and Nevada to show their support.
The pieces ranged from intricate portraits of 'Big Cats' (by Jordan Hellman), to nails fully covered in beads to create images of cacti and flowers (by Alyssa Ann Treadway), to landscapes that were intricately painted like artists work in a museum (by Eva Suriaty).
"Connections to other nail artists are so important on both a personal and professional level. We inspire each other, face similar challenges, and we share a passion not necessarily understood by everyone we meet. As it stands there are only a couple of ways to view nail art. If you are lucky you can happen upon it in the wild, but the majority of us get our daily recommended value of nail art through social media. But this incredible and detailed art form necessitates up-close, in person inspection."
