The Nail Platform Gears Up for Launch

by Holly Schippers | July 23, 2014 | Bookmark +

Did you know one of the most common complaints about education, aside from the lack of it, is that it has become more of a sales pitch than an educational experience? Many classes, even though manufacturer based, are a great source of education and opportunity for improvement. Sadly, some have chosen to use the time to bash other brands and do an elaborate sales pitch over providing useful information about the product at hand.  There is also the disconnect from school to salon in where so many nail professionals are lost in the true lack of practical knowledge they have entering the work force.

This has been something that bothered Lucien Henderson, owner and creator of Empower Nail Art, for several years. He decided to become a licensed nail tech this year and became further saddened by the education standard of many schools when it came to nails. Discussing the idea with industry professionals who agreed on the need for unbiased, quality education,  lead him to put into action a plan he has considered for quite some time. His plan is The Nail Platform (TNP), a hope to elevate the nail industry by allowing nail professionals to work together elevating themselves as a community. The Nail Platform is meant to be a space for nail educators to be elevated to the perceived height of a hair stage artist, and allow them the opportunity to offer non-product specific education to other nail professionals. So many things we need to know are technique, science, and anatomy which are all independent of product and completely about nails. The debut of TNP will take place in Anaheim, Calif. on September 7, 2014. Are you interested in being one of the industry innovators to take on this style of education and support learning purely for the sake of learning?

Reopening? Know Your Numbers

by Michele Baker

For those of you that like a little data with your info, here is some really interesting information from salon owner Michele Baker in Georgia. Being one of the first states to open left the salon owners to scramble to learn a lot of things on their own and many have been generous in sharing things they have figured out to help make operating in the COVID-19 world more systematic and understandable.
