Libertine’s AW19 collection came to L.A. Friday. The theme of the show was Memento Mori, an experience of the rich, ethereal, and embellished. Meant to breathe new life into ancient tapestry, fabrics, and vintage, the looks showcased fun living in the moment.

Terrarium-inspired living nails literally grew off the models’ hands. Team CND used moss and actual living plants attached to the nail that had to be watered and cared for in the weeks leading up to the show. Ghostly skulls popped off the nail, featuring Libertine designer Johnson Hartig’s face. The skull nails gave the illusion of an X-ray by appearing on both a clear top nail, and a white bottom nail underneath. The double layer effect made the face of Hartig look half skull, half photo. Nails by Torie Bastian featured swirls in psychedelic patterns with vines hanging down. Globe nails featured glass-looking globes, complete with antique jewels inside that could move around with the nail. Winnie Huang created the Petit Mort nail using CND Shellac in Black Pool, moss tinted with alcohol ink and Shellac in Future Fuchsia. A clear tip was placed on top and sealed for a decoupage effect. Gold foil and beads were used to outline the nail. Team CND’s design team included team lead Heather Reynosa, Shelena Robinson, and nails from Tracey Lee.
