“She left a little sparkle wherever she went,” a twist on the late designer’s now-legendary quote, were the words that inspired the Kate Spade Spring/Summer 2019 collection. The sparkly-yet-sophisticated manicure created by Julie Kandalec for Essie paid tribute to the fashion icon.

Playing off the nautical theme of Monse’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, Rita Remark for Essie created two designs inspired by sails. ”The first look is a white, angled tip shaped like a sail, while the other features two graphic lines,” she says. The designs are worn as an accent nail on each hand. “With the help of a thin striping brush, this look is easily achieved at home; no tape or guides required,” she adds.

Get the manicure look:

  1. Apply Apricot Cuticle Oil to moisturize skin, then wipe the nail bed clean with polish remover.
  2. Add one layer of Here to Stay base coat.
  3. Apply one coat of Mademoiselle for a clean and fresh look.
  4. Using a striping brush dipped in Blanc, draw a diagonal line from the outer edge of the nail down toward the tip. Fill in the negative space with polish.
  1. On the other hand, draw a thin diagonal stripe from the edge of the nail down toward the tip, then create a short, horizontal line from the center of the stripe out toward the edge of the nail bed.
  2. Finish with Speed.Setter top coat.
