Continuing education is the practice of pursuing one’s professional education after the required or formal curriculum has been completed; some state boards of cosmetology require nail professionals to take continuing education units (CEUs) in order to renew their licensing, but continuing education can be either formal or informal, required or optional.
There are many groups in the professional nail industry that offer continuing education events and classes. Some are affiliated with manufacturers and distributors, some are independent.
The High Road to Education (HRTE) is a traveling two-day seminar that aims to teach nail techs good overall techniques and procedures. The events feature educators from different companies coming together to share and teach the craft of nail services, without being particular to any specific products. Eight seminars have been completed, and founder Tammy Warner says the feedback has been great. “It’s absolutely amazing,” she says, “We’re seeing lots of support.
