When I have some down time, which thankfully doesn’t happen too often, I reorganize my work station, clean the display areas, write out client thank-you and birthday cards, and update my client files. I also spend that time working on new promotions or nail art samples. – Kimberly Abate, Dazzlz Spa Salon, Barnegat, N.J.
If I’m not busy with a client, I try to clean and organize my station. Once that’s done, I try to catch up on current trade magazines and make notes on which articles I really want to keep information on. That helps me stay on top of things. – Debbe Kuppin, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Norridge, Ill.
When I’m not performing nail services, I read my issues of NAILS and practice airbrushing techniques. I also design nails for display, check the shelf life of all my product, and order any products that are needed. – Susan Hays, Su-sational Nail Designs at Style Trends, Maysville, Ohio
I clean my station, call to confirm my appointments, help out my co-workers, or simply relax my back for a few minutes. – Beth Elberger, Salon Cemone, Manalapan, N.J.
I’m the sole owner and worker at my salon, so when I have a break between clients, I do whatever needs to be done. That usually ranges from dusting, mopping and paying bills to practicing nail art and airbrushing techniques. – Connie Thompson BourQuard, Exquiste Nails by Connie, Chalmette, La.
First, I do paperwork: update clients records, write thank-you notes. If all that’s current, I do some serious salon cleaning. It’s just my sister and me in the salon, so the maintenance is up to us. – Tammy Chrisman, Exclusive Enhancements at the Hair Connection, White Pigeon, Mich.
Any extra time I have is used to clean up and restock my table, practice techniques and nail art, and contact distributors and beauty supply stores for upcoming classes or product demos. Sometimes if I’ve had a really hectic week – especially around the holidays – I’ll just take time to relax and regroup before my next client arrives. – Cindy Smith, Lord’s & Lady’s Salon, Princeton, N.J.
