Weeks 13 & 14: Sculpted Nails and Smooth Sailing

Week 13: Sculpted Nails

This week’s learning opportunity: sculpted nails. Here I thought acrylic was challenge enough, but try doing it without a nail tip or a free edge. I will not be defeated! I have to do 90 of them at minimum to complete program requirements for this category, so I’m sure by the time I graduate I will be good to go!

Theory this week was a quick chapter about electricity. I have to be honest and say that I was not aware that it was that involved in what I will be doing in nail care. I definitely want to be efficient and I do not want to overload anything in my salon, so that lesson was needed.

I’m just moving along through the program and taking it all in, seizing every moment and learning all that I can. I am also zoning in on what my niche will be and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. Have I mentioned lately how much fun I’m having? I’m eager to see what the next week has in store for me. Whatever it is, I am super excited to share!

Week 14: Smooth Sailing

This week was amazing! From theory to practical, this felt like the smoothest week I’ve had in a while at school. There have been a lot of things that were a little difficult for me, but I kept pushing. However, I found school very refreshing this week.

This week we settled into what I called a real routine and I loved it. I look forward to this going forward. I know I’m not the only one who likes a tight structure when it comes to their education. In theory, we learned all about manicures and even did a presentation on using essential oils to create a different manicure experience. It was creative, fun, and it allowed me to work closer with my classmates. When learning is hands-on and fun, I tend to retain the information better.

I also took an opportunity to work more with pink-and-white acrylic. This time I decided to try the chevron tip instead of the normal smile line that we work so hard to achieve and perfect. It was fun, and with a little more practice I know that I can get it down.

That’s the awesome part about this learning process for me — being able to make it my own. I learn the standard set by the state board and then I have the opportunity to be creative and make certain things my own. So it was another week that got me closer to completion of my program. The exciting times continue!
