Several of my manicure clients have trouble with the polish either chipping or peeling off soon after a manicure. I feel I do a great prep job, and I’ve tried numerous polish treatments, but still no luck. Can you help me?
I found that even with a good prep job I had the same problem. I found out the top coat I was using was too thick for the natural nail. When you have too many heavy layers on the natural nail, they can’t flex with the nail. I now use a thinner top coat (Seche Vite) and have had better results. I also make sure to cap the free edge with color and top coat. -- MaeLing Parrish is the co-owner of Nail Sensation in Columbus, Ohio, and was first runner-up for Nail Technician of the Year in NAILS’ 2006 AVAs.
I have my clients scrub their nails with soap and water after my lotion application, and I use acetone to remove the oils from the natural nail. Once the polish is applied, use a good top coat. -- Mary Seitzinger is the co-owner of Nail Sensation in Columbus, Ohio, and was Nail Technician of the Year in NAILS’ 2006 AVAs.
